BIOGRAPHY
Born December 22, 1993 in Nantucket, Massachusetts, Meghan Elizabeth Trainor began singing at age six, at a Methodist church with her father who was a music teacher and organist. She began writing songs and recording them using the digital audio workstation software GarageBand. She started writing songs when she was 11 and soon produced them on her computer 2 years later. Her father encouraged her to explore various musical genres. At age 12, Trainor began performing as part of Island Fusion, an "all-purpose party band" which performed covers, soca music, and Trainor's compositions. The band included her aunt, her younger brother, and her father. Trainor played piano, guitar, and bongo drum, and sang with the band for four years. By age 13, Trainor had written her first original song, "Give Me a Chance". When she was in the eighth grade, the family left Nantucket. They temporarily relocated to Orleans, Massachusetts before moving to North Eastham, Massachusetts, where the children attended Nauset Regional High School. At Nauset Regional High, Trainor studied guitar and was a substitute cheerleader. Additionally, Trainor sang and played trumpet in a jazz band for three years. While she was still a teenager, Trainor's parents encouraged her to attend songwriting conventions, and they took her to venues where production companies were searching for new artists and songwriters. At age 15, she took guitar lessons from former NRBQ band member Johnny Spampinato. During this time, Trainor used Logic Studio to record and produce her compositions and later worked independently from a home studio that her parents constructed for her.
Between the ages of 15 and 17, Trainor independently released three albums of material she wrote, recorded and performed herself : "Meghan Trainor" "I'll Sing With You" "Only 17". At 18, Trainor signed a songwriting deal with Big Yellow Dog Music, penning tracks for Rascal Flatts and Disney star Sabrina Carpenter. After signing a record deal with Epic Records in 2014, Trainor rose to fame with the release of her major-label debut studio album, Title (2015). The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, went on to sell over one million copies domestically, and produced four top 20 singles: "All About That Bass", "Lips Are Movin", "Dear Future Husband", and "Like I'm Gonna Lose You". Her second major release, Thank You, was scheduled for release on May 13, 2016, preceded by its lead single "No", which reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
Meghan Trainor's third major-label studio album, Treat Myself, was scheduled for release on August 31, 2018, but was delayed because Trainor wanted to write and record more songs for it. She released a holiday album, A Very Trainor Christmas, on October 30, 2020. In March 2021, she signed an overall deal with NBCUniversal, which includes her starring in a comedy series. On September 15, 2021, Workin' on It, a podcast co-hosted by Trainor and Ryan and distributed by the iHeartPodcast network, premiered. On September 28, 2022, Australia's Seven Network announced that Trainor will serve as a judge on Australian Idol in 2023.
In the same year, Meghan Trainor announced her first book, "Dear Future Mama" which was released on April 25. On March 14, 2024, Meghan Trainor and T-Pain released the song "Been Like This" as the lead single from her sixth major-label studio album, Timeless (2024). The album was released on June 7, 2024. In support of Timeless, Meghan Trainor will embark on The Timeless Tour in September 2024, with Natasha Bedingfield, Paul Russell, Chris Olsen, and Ryan serving as opening acts.
